Preparing Your Home For Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is approaching quickly, meaning all of the chaotic stress associated with cooking, cleaning, and entertaining is inevitably on its way. To combat the Thanksgiving scaries, we’ve put together a guide to keep you organized and your stressors at bay.

Make A Checklist

This is a great way to keep yourself on track; start your list now! Writing out your plan weeks ahead of time will help prevent you from forgetting anything important and keep you organized. On this list, you can incorporate your ingredient list, any deadlines (don’t forget the bakery closes at 5pm on Wednesday!) ideas that you’ve come up with for presentation, and anything else deemed essential for the big day.

Read Your Recipes

Always make sure to read over your recipes ahead of time, especially for things with extensive directions, defrosting times, long cooking times, and lengthy ingredients lists. You’ll be much more prepared and won’t be scrambling to get a 6 hour recipe done in 30 minutes.

Clean Out The Fridge

You’re going to have a lot of food coming in and out of your house the week of Thanksgiving, and the last thing you want is to be fighting for space in your refrigerator. Throw out any old leftovers, expired products, wilted produce, etc. . Do the same for your pantry and anywhere else you keep food. We suggest doing this directly before your big shopping trip so that it doesn’t have time to clutter up again.

Decorate Ahead Of Time

Don’t save decorating until the day of if you don’t have to. It will save you a lot of time and stress on Thanksgiving Day if the only things you have to do are cook and serve. If you don’t use your dining room every day, set up everything except your serveware during the week.
