Preparing Your Home For Back to School
Put your pool floats and swimsuits away, school is back in session! As usual, the summer flew by and we’re already buying backpacks, notebooks, and pencils. A brand new, exciting school year is on the horizon and we’re excited to see what it has in store. With the ‘Back to School’ season comes homework, sports, and science projects that can leave your home in complete disarray, but we can try to overcome this with being super prepared. Here are our tips for preparing your home for the school year.
Designate Study Spaces: As easy as it is to just get working on homework wherever your child lands, this can lead to overcrowding the dinner table, floor, and kitchen counters with all sorts of school supplies. Instead, consider designating a spot for homework to be completed, perhaps in a bedroom or office space. This will help keep everything organized in the other areas of your house, and give your child some sense of order for their school work.
Establish A Household Calendar: Between sports practice, band recitals, and parent-teacher conferences, schedules can get hectic, especially with multiple people in a household. Having a community calendar where everyone can write their to-dos will help prevent events from getting missed or forgotten.
Make A Weekly Schedule: With all the hustle and bustle of the school week, activities like chores, meal prep, and quality time with the family can fall on one person to take care of, or even completely become overlooked. Making an itinerary for the week will help keep your family on track. Assign chores to each family member for the week to evenly divide the housework load, and set aside at least one night a week for the family to spend together.
Organizing Your Entryway: The second the kiddos enter the home, everything hits the floors. Shoes fly off, coats pile in the corner, backpacks spread across the entrance. It can be a mess, but a very easy fix. Put together an organization area for all of your school belongings. Wall hooks work great for coats and backpacks, bins can hold scarves and hats, and a rack will organize shoes.
We hope these tips help you get your home in check for the best school year ever!
