Spring Cleaning Checklist: Bathroom Edition

Spring Has Sprung!

Happy Spring! We are so SO ready for warm breezes, blooming flowers, and sunny days. Everything feels so fresh and new, making it the perfect time to deep clean. Bathrooms are one of the dirtiest places in the household, lingering with dirt, germs, and bacteria. We know thinking about a deep cleanse can be a little overwhelming, but lucky for you, we have put together a comprehensive guide to bathroom cleaning to make sure nothing gets missed and you receive the fresh start you deserve.

Declutter & Dispose: Have you been holding on to the nail polish bottle remover with not even a drop in it? It’s time to throw it away. Get rid of any products that are almost empty, or that you haven’t been used in months (or years). Most cosmetic and skincare items have a shelf life marked on the back of the packaging.

Organization is Key: Now that you’ve disposed of all old and unused products, don’t just throw them back under the sink. Purchase plastic bins or totes and labels to keep all of your containers organized. You can get these bins fairly cheap at Target, HomeGoods, and sometimes, even the Dollar Store.

Load Up Your Wash: Germs love to linger in fabrics that aren’t regularly cleaned. If you have any rugs, shower towels, bath mats, or any other soft surface items in your bathroom, now is a great time to give them a wash. You may not think these items are barely touched, but you’d be surprised how many times they are brushed up against, fall on the floor, or are walked across with dirty shoes. You may even want to throw your cloth shower curtain in the wash with the rest of your items.

Work That Duster: Prior to cleaning surfaces, make sure to break out the duster and remove as much as possible. Don’t forget to dust the spaces you typically don’t see, like the top of shelves and cabinetry, and spaces close to the floor, like baseboards.

Scrub A Dub Dub: Pull on those rubber gloves and get to scrubbing! Whether you use disposable wipes, microfiber rags, or if a sponge works best for your purposes, remember to use the correct cleaning products for each surface to prevent streaking, staining, and product build up. Key areas to clean are countertops, mirrors, toilets, tile backsplash/walls, shower stalls, and windows. Depending on the surface and severity of the dirt, you may want to let the cleaning products sit for a while before wiping down for best results. This works best for tough stains, mildew, and scum.

Treatments: There are so many cool products on the market these days, including cleansing shower steams and toilet bowl treatments. These products get down  into the nitty gritty, and cleanse in ways we can’t. If you’re worried about your septic, or just want to make sure you have the deepest clean possible, this is a great time to do a drainage cleanse. Powders, like Rid-X, break down any backups in your pipes to promote easier draining. This can be used in your toilet, sink, and shower.

Don’t Forget Your Floors!: Sweeping and vacuuming are great, but isn’t always enough. While using a dustpan and broom gets up some dirt, but in general, just spreads germs and grime around. If you have a tile or a wood floor, use a mop (or a steam mop) and some disinfectant to kill any germs and bacteria lingering on your floor. Be careful, the floor may be slippery afterwards!

We hope these tips help make your bathroom sparkle!
